The Government’s National Cyber Security Programme and the Local Government Association (LGA) have commissioned Oxford Brookes Institute of Public Care (IPC) to research into the security of peoples’ personal data. Specifically IPC were asked to test the resilience to cyber-attack of technological systems used by the adult social care sector. This project explored how the adult social care sector uses technology, identifying good practice, as well as security risks that are prevalent in the sector. The concluding report considers the effectiveness of existing support for providers and the changes needed to improve systems and support in order to maintain cyber security and good information governance. Recommendations from the programme were shared with care providers and local commissioners via webinars hosted by LGA. IPC are now the government recommended cyber security advisers for the care sector. IPC works closely with the Institute of Ethical AI to provide domain specific advanced IT and AI knowledge to the care sector.
